How to wash our facemask
We recommend washing it in a delicates bag, on low spin and hot temperature. Here is a link (click here) to such a delicates bag to purchase on Amazon.
Is your facemask efficient to filter against microbes?
Studies (click here for link) have shown that 95% of particulates are blocked in pure cotton masks if there is a good seal.
We have in addition added a layer of non-woven fabric in the middle to further improve the efficiency of our masks.
We have made our facemask wider and bigger than the usual disposable facemask to help with having a bigger seal.
However, we have no data, nor any proof or information to show that our facemasks are efficient in preventing viral transmission. Please be careful and follow the CDC
How many facemasks do I need?
Our facemask is washable and reusable. We think of facemasks like underwear.
We recommend having 1 to 2 weeks of facemask supplies.
Yes you can live with one pair of underwear but most people have a few week's supplies so that they don't have to do laundry daily.
Why are you using non-woven fabric?
Unfortunately both the supply chains that provide filters or carbon activated fabrics are not working.
We are using non-woven fabric in the middle layer as that is the best we could find.
We have seen literature that shows that this is more effective than just using woven fabric like cotton.
How long should I wash the facemask to kill microbes?
Family and emergency Dr. Janette Nesheiwat suggested that polyester, spandex-like material may retain germs longer than breathable cotton-based fabrics.
When it comes time to wash clothes, Winner said there are specific guidelines you’ll want to follow in order to help kill the microbes. This includes using the hot water setting on your washing machine and giving your clothes some extra time and heat in the dyer.
“I would recommend that you wash clothes in detergents that contain a bleach compound,” Rohde told HuffPost. “Microbes do not do well at all in this type of harsh environment.”
How does your facemask compare to disposable facemasks with elastics?
Our facemasks are washable and therefore reusable.
Also we use straps so you can knot your facemask behind your head. We find this to be comfortable than elastics around your ears, especially if worn for hours.
Our facemasks are also bigger than disposable facemasks and form a better seal.
Our 3-Layer Facemask doesn't seem to have a 3rd layer?
As you can see in the picture the 3rd layer is in the middle. It is thin so you can breathe through it. It is a non-woven polypropylene. It is there. If you don't trust us please cut a facemask to check.
Are your facemasks medical grade?
No, they are not.
To make medical-grade facemasks [N95] masks we need activated carbon fabric, or filters. Unfortunately they are impossible to find.
If you know where you can find any we can make [N95] "like" facemasks.
However for a facemask to be fully [N95] certified it has to pass advanced tests in a lab which is not possible at this time.
How should I tie the facemask?
We recommend tying the top strap first while making sure it's above your ears. Then the bottom strap around the neck.
